Today a new restaurant opens its doors in Nashville, and last night the hubby and I were fortunate enough to get a sneak preview. Arnold Myint's newest creation, the aptly named Suzy Wong's House of Yum, impressed me even before being seated. As the hostess led us to our seats on the back patio, I drank up the design elements of the space. It's unique, playful, and warm, with illuminated wall panels and an impressive handpainted dragon holding court over the dining room from the ceiling above.
Once outside we settled into a bank of posh low couches and ottomans, enjoying the beautiful night air in the relaxed space. After just coming off of a full holiday weekend of travel, football, rowdy bars, and loud restaurants, this was the change of pace we needed. Our friendly servers added to the whole pleasurable experience with helpful attitudes and full knowledge of the menu. Ah, the menu. This is what you care about right? Yes, the space is hip and inviting, but the food is what will keep me coming back. With a wide variety of choices ranging from small plates to salads to "Yum Bowls", there is something for everyone. Here's the sampling we got:
Peanut Sauce Chicken Salad
Roasted Pulled Chicken with Peanut Sauce Dressing
Kung Pao Green Beans

Asian Wonton Nachos (shown at right)
BBQ Pork, Queso Blanco, Edamame, Cilantro Pico, and Red Curry Crema
Coriander Smashed Avocado
Peanut Sauce Chicken Salad
Roasted Pulled Chicken with Peanut Sauce Dressing
Kung Pao Green Beans
If we both hadn't been completely stuffed at that point, we would have continued ordering and eating because there were so many other items that looked tempting: Crab Wontons with Bacon, Five Spice Pork Ribs, and a Thai Curry Steak Sandwich with cilantro yogurt, charred onions and asian slaw. Oh well, there's always next time- and there is absolutely no doubt that there will be a "next time" in the very near future!

Sounds great, Beth. Thanks for the info. We are always looking for a new place to dine. Sounds like we'll have to add Suzy Wong's to the list!
ReplyDeleteI've got a Mister that would LOVE this! Thanks for the heads up! We'll have to try it.
ReplyDeleteDoes that plate say YUM? Cute!
ReplyDeleteYUM! Can't wait to try this place out!
ReplyDeleteI have some friends that went there last weekend and absolutely loved it. We have to try it. Thanks for sharing this with us.
ReplyDeleteI was there last night and the food is sensational, the service was attentive and attractive I might add! The Mussles are a must!!
ReplyDeleteHad high hopes and I was sadly disappointed. We chose this place to celebrate a friends birthday, how embarrassing.
ReplyDeleteThe service was terrible, had to ask for simple things such as silverware, side plate, water etc.
My mushroom and bean sprout teriyaki was too salty and drenched in soy sauce. The vegetable tempura was extremely bland, a pinch of salt would have done the trick. One of the girls wanted to minus the tofu on one of the bowls and it could not be done. Another girl wanted to add tofu and that couldnt be done either. You were told "We are not allowed, the Chef will rip me a new one". I have NEVER EVER heard of any restaurant anywhere that would not take such request!
Needless to say, our table remained uncleared and cluttered throughout the night. We asked another server who was extremely sweet and kind, obviously she seemed to be the only one that understood the word "SERVICE".
We/I will never return or recommend any of our friends or business clients.
That's awful! I am so sorry you had such a bad experience. I've been many times (just as recent as last week) and only ever had great service and food. I am actually planning to have my own birthday party there, but in light of this information I'm a little worried.
ReplyDeleteGood food is of course of the utmost importance to a restaurant, but in my opinion service is THE key to a great meal. I've had my share of bad service experiences, so I know what an awful taste it leaves in your mouth.
